Mauritius adopted the National Strategy on AI in 2018. The document sets out the government’s approach to making AI the cornerstone of the country’s next development model. The strategy recognizes the potential of AI to improve growth, productivity, and the quality of life. Further it also aims at developing thought leadership on the economic, ethical, policy, and legal implications of AI. Under the strategy – the government has established – The Mauritius AI Council, which aims to leverage artificial intelligence for inclusive socio-economic development. Organized by the Ministry of Information Technology, Communication, and Innovation of the Republic of Mauritius, along with the Mauritius Emerging Technology Council (METC).The council plays a crucial role in defining the right ecosystem for adopting new technologies as enablers of growth.
