In recent years, Gujarat has emerged as one of India’s leading states in integrating artificial intelligence into governance, industrial development, innovation policy, and digital infrastructure. Through a combination of policy reforms, research institutions, startup support, and industry partnerships, the state has steadily expanded the role of AI across sectors such as healthcare, education, financial technology, manufacturing, and governance.

One of the earlier policy initiatives supporting AI and emerging technologies was the Student Startup and Innovation Policy (SSIP 2.0), introduced in 2022. The programme encouraged student-led innovation and startup development in fields such as artificial intelligence, deep technology, data science, and advanced digital systems across universities and academic institutions in Gujarat.

Between 2022 and 2024, Gujarat further strengthened its technology ecosystem by supporting Centres of Excellence focused on Industry 4.0, artificial intelligence, IoT, and advanced manufacturing technologies. During the same period, the Gujarat IT/ITeS Policy (2022–2027) expanded incentives for industries operating in AI, machine learning, data analytics, and related technology sectors.

In 2024, the Government of Gujarat established a dedicated AI Taskforce to prepare a statewide roadmap for artificial intelligence adoption. The taskforce was created to identify opportunities for AI deployment across governance, agriculture, healthcare, education, and industrial sectors while promoting responsible and scalable AI implementation.

The year 2025 marked a major expansion of Gujarat’s AI ecosystem. The state cabinet approved the Gujarat AI Action Plan (2025–2030), aimed at integrating artificial intelligence into governance systems, healthcare services, fintech, education, and digital public infrastructure. The plan also includes AI skilling initiatives, workforce development programmes, and infrastructure creation to support AI adoption statewide.

Institutional and industry collaborations also expanded during 2025. An Artificial Intelligence Centre of Excellence was inaugurated at GIFT City in Gandhinagar to support AI research, fintech innovation, and industry partnerships. Around the same time, Infosys established a new AI-focused development centre at GIFT City to develop AI-driven analytics and fintech solutions.

Artificial intelligence has additionally been integrated into healthcare services. In 2025, SSG Hospital in Vadodara launched an AI-powered oncology chatbot to provide multilingual patient support and cancer-care assistance in Gujarati, Hindi, and English.

Overall, Gujarat’s AI strategy reflects a coordinated approach that combines policy planning, startup support, AI research infrastructure, industrial collaboration, skill development, and governance innovation.
